#1233 INDIAN SAGWA HEALY & BIGELOW

John H. Healy and Charles H. Bigelow     Clintonville Conn.      Circa 1880s

Healy and Bigelow probably started making medicines together sometime in the mid 1880s. They made use of Indians in medicine shows which were very popular. The medicine shows toured all over the country peddling the remedy. They moved their business to Clintonville in 1901 where it became known as the Kickapoo Indian Medicine Company Inc. This bottle was one of the last ones made before the Food & Drug Act of 1906 drastically changed patent medicine advertising. The Hood Company later bought out the Kickapoo Medicine Company.
This is one of the earlier Healy & Bigelow bottles with an embossed Indian profile on the front.
